Built From A Blank Canvas

What we mean by bespoke web design

  • Templates
  • Pre-made themes
  • Drag-and-drop builders

Every business we work with gets a website built from a blank canvas. Every layout, every page structure and every line of code is written specifically for you.

Book a Call

This matters because your website is the foundation of your digital presence. It shapes how customers perceive your business, how search engines categorise it, and whether AI-powered tools like Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT recommend you over a competitor. A template cannot do that work. A bespoke build can.

Our design and development team is led by Alicia and Edoardo, who between them cover design, development, search engine optimisation, and the technical work that gets your site found on Google and AI search tools.

You work directly with them throughout the project. There is no account manager in between.

Included As Standard

What every Landmark website includes

Four things every site gets, whatever the budget. None of them are optional extras and none of them are charged separately.

01

Works on every device

Your site is designed for phones first, then tablets and desktops. Over 60 percent of local searches happen on mobile, so your site needs to look right and load fast wherever your customers are. We test on all major browsers before launch.

02

Loads fast

A slow website loses visitors before they have read a word. We build every site to load in under half a second, meeting the performance benchmarks Google uses to decide which sites appear at the top of search results.

03

Secure and compliant

Each website includes an SSL security certificate, GDPR compliant cookie consent, and a privacy policy. We also follow WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards so your website works for everyone, including people using assistive technology.

04

Built for Google and AI search

We add structured data to every site we build. This is code behind the scenes that tells Google, ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity exactly what your business does, where you are based, and what services you offer. Without it, these tools cannot recommend your business. Most websites do not have this. Every Landmark site does.

Our Work

Websites we have designed and built

Every site below was designed from a blank canvas and hand-coded. No templates, no themes, no page builders. Sixteen of them, across sixteen different trades.

Joinery, automotive, electrical, engineering, windows, pest control, waste clearance, asbestos surveying, property services, roofing, wellness and ecommerce.

How We Work

Our five-stage design process

The same five stages on every project, whether it is an eight-page site or a two hundred page build. You see and approve the work at each stage, so nothing is a surprise at the end.

  1. Discovery

We start by learning about your business, your customers, and what your competitors are doing online. This shapes the structure, content and design of your new site.

  2. Planning and structure

We map out every page and define how visitors will move through your site. You see the full layout before any design work begins, so there are no surprises.

  3. Design

We create a visual design you can click through and review before we build anything. Every layout is designed mobile first, so your site looks right on phones, tablets and desktops.

  4. Build

We hand-code your site to load fast, work on every device, and meet Google's performance standards. Everything is built to help your business appear in search results from launch day.

  5. Launch and support

Before going live, we test everything thoroughly. After launch, we monitor your site for 30 days and fix any issues that come up.

What Has Changed

What makes a website effective in 2026

A website that looked modern three years ago may already be costing you business. The way search engines evaluate websites has changed fundamentally, and three factors now separate sites that generate enquiries from those that do not.

Your site must load fast

Google uses page speed as a ranking factor. If your site takes more than two seconds to load on a phone, visitors leave before they have read a word.

We build every site to load in under half a second. That is not a tuning exercise bolted on at the end, it is a consequence of hand-coding rather than stacking a theme on top of a page builder on top of twenty plugins.

0.5sThe load time we build to, against the two seconds at which most visitors abandon a page on mobile.

Platforms

The platforms we build on

We build on open platforms you own outright, so that if you ever move on, your site and its search history come with you.

Birleymoor Windows, a bespoke WordPress website built by Landmark Web Design

WordPress

We build the majority of our sites on WordPress, the world's most widely used content management system. WordPress powers over 40 percent of all websites globally and gives you full control over your content, design, and how your site grows over time.

For a deeper look at how we build on it, see our WordPress web design page.

WooCommerce and Shopify

For businesses that sell products online, we develop on WooCommerce and Shopify. Both let you manage products, take payments and handle orders straight away.

For more on our online store builds, see our eCommerce web design page.

What we do not build on

We do not build on Wix, Squarespace, or other closed platforms. These tools limit your control over your site and make it harder to appear in search results long term. If you are already on one and it is working, we will say so rather than talk you into a rebuild you do not need.

After Launch

What happens after launch

A website is not a one-off project. Search algorithms evolve, competitors update their sites, and your business changes over time. We offer ongoing support through two routes.

Maintenance and support

Security updates, plugin management, uptime monitoring, backups and technical fixes.

See our maintenance and support page for details, or send us a message describing what you need covered.

SEO and content strategy

Ongoing search engine optimisation including keyword research, content creation, link building and monthly performance reporting. This is for businesses that want to actively grow their search visibility after launch.

See our SEO services page for details.

Both services are optional. Every site we build is designed to perform from launch day without ongoing SEO spend, but businesses in competitive markets benefit from sustained investment in content and visibility.

Case Study

Sandown Coachworks

Sandown Coachworks is a car body shop with a specialist electric vehicle repair facility. They needed a website that reflected their technical expertise and captured search demand across a wide range of specific repair and location terms.

We designed and developed a WordPress website with over 180 structured pages, each targeting a specific service and location combination, with every page linking logically to related services and locations so Google could understand the full range of what Sandown offers.

Common Questions

Web design FAQs

The questions we are asked most often before a project starts. If yours is not here, ring the studio and ask.

How long does it take to build a new website?

A straightforward brochure site is usually four to six weeks from the discovery call to launch. Larger builds, online shops and sites with a lot of location or service pages typically run eight to twelve weeks.

The single biggest variable is content. Projects run to time when copy and photographs are ready, and slip when they are not. We tell you exactly what we need from you, and when, at the planning stage.

How much does a bespoke website cost?

Every quote is fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts, so there is nothing to discover halfway through. The price depends on the number of pages, whether you are selling online, and how much content needs writing rather than supplying.

We have a site for every budget, and we would rather tell you that a smaller build will do the job than quote you for something you do not need. Tell us what you want the site to achieve and we will give you a real number.

Do I need to provide the content for my website?

Not necessarily. If you have copy and photographs ready, we will structure and use them. If you do not, we can write the content for you, which is often the better route because the wording and the page structure have to work together for search.

Real photographs of your work, your team and your premises always outperform stock images, so even when we write the words, supplying your own pictures is worth the effort.

Will I be able to update the site myself after launch?

Yes. Every build includes a walkthrough of your content management system so you can edit text, swap images, add pages and publish posts without coming back to us.

You also own everything: the domain, the hosting account and the site itself. If you ever move to another agency, it all goes with you.

What is structured data and why does my website need it?

Structured data is code that gives search engines clear information about your business and your pages. It can identify details such as your business name, location and the type of content on a page. When used correctly, it can also make eligible pages appear with extra details in Google Search results. It works alongside clear website content. Structured data is not required for AI Overviews or AI Mode, and it does not guarantee a particular search appearance or ranking. We add relevant structured data to every site we build and check that it matches what visitors can see on the page.

Do you build on platforms other than WordPress?

Yes. We build online shops on WooCommerce and Shopify, depending on how you want to manage products and payments.

We do not build on Wix, Squarespace or other closed platforms, because they limit your control over the site and make long term search visibility harder.

How To Contact Us

It Starts With a Conversation

Whether you need a first website, a redesign of one that is not earning its keep, or an online shop, the first conversation covers three things.

  • What your current site is costing you in missed enquiries
  • What the new site has to do, and for whom
  • What that costs, as a fixed price agreed before any work starts

If a smaller build is all you need, we will say so rather than quoting for more. You keep the findings either way.
