Why It Matters
You did not want a website. You wanted the phone to ring.
That is what a maintenance plan is really for. Not updates. Somebody noticing.
A customer rang us because their website was not displaying properly. No maintenance plan, so this was the first we had heard of it. WordPress was showing its error box and we could not get into the dashboard at all. Their plugins had not been updated in months.
The fix came to just under £150. That is not the expensive part. The expensive part was the week of enquiries that had gone to a competitor, because nobody noticed the site was broken until the phone stopped ringing.
The Numbers
Why your website needs ongoing maintenance
WordPress core is rarely the thing that breaks your site. Here is where the risk actually sits, based on vulnerabilities disclosed across the WordPress ecosystem in 2025.
The plugins your site relies on, from contact forms to booking systems to payment gateways, each release updates independently. When those updates are not applied, your site becomes vulnerable to exploits that are already public knowledge. When they are applied without testing, they can break your layout, your forms, or your checkout.
That is where most small business owners get stuck. You know the site needs updating, you do not have the time or the confidence to do it yourself, and you have heard the stories about updates breaking sites. That is exactly what we handle.
Our Plans
Three plans, one direct point of contact
Every plan includes a direct point of contact. You speak to a real person when you need something, not a call centre or a ticketing system.

Small new websites and start-ups with little functionality
- UK managed hosting and SSL on secure cloud
- Automated daily backups, stored off-site
- 24/7 uptime monitoring
- Security monitoring
- WordPress, plugin and theme updates
- Updates applied monthly
- If an update breaks the site: rolled back, then we wait for the plugin fix
Growth
Established businesses with regular update needs
- UK managed hosting and SSL on secure cloud
- Automated daily backups, stored off-site
- 24/7 uptime monitoring
- Security monitoring
- WordPress, plugin and theme updates
- Updates applied weekly
- Content and technical edits: up to 2 hours a month
- If an update breaks the site: rolled back, then fixed on staging
Premium
Businesses that change their site often
- UK managed hosting and SSL on secure cloud
- Automated daily backups, stored off-site
- 24/7 uptime monitoring
- Security monitoring
- WordPress, plugin and theme updates
- Updates applied weekly
- Content and technical edits: unlimited requests, one at a time
- If an update breaks the site: rolled back, then fixed on staging
Plans run month to month. Prices shown are the monthly fee. If your site was built by another agency we audit it first, fix what is already broken, then bring it onto a plan.
The Honest Answer
What happens when an update breaks your site
This is the question that separates a real maintenance plan from a hosting resale, so here is our honest answer rather than a reassuring one.
Contact UsOn Starter
We roll the site back so it is working, and then we wait for the plugin developer to publish a fix. That is the same as most entry-level plans in the market. It is not a criticism of the plan, it is what £39 a month buys.
On Growth and Premium
There is no fix window to sit through. We take a copy of the site onto staging, roll the live site back so you are trading immediately, then solve the problem offline. When it is fixed, we migrate it from staging to live. You are trading the whole time.
Who pays
If the breakage came from code we wrote, we fix it, no argument and no invoice. If it came from changes you made to the site yourself, that is chargeable. We would rather draw that line here, in public, than spring it on you in a support ticket.
One caveat that applies to every agency, not just us. 46% of disclosed WordPress vulnerabilities had no developer patch available when they went public. Sometimes waiting for the plugin author genuinely is the only option. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something.
What You Get
What is included
WordPress and plugin updates
We apply WordPress core, plugin and theme updates on a regular schedule: monthly on Starter, weekly on Growth and Premium. Every update is tested afterwards to make sure your site still works.
Around half of high-impact WordPress vulnerabilities are exploited within 24 hours of disclosure, and the most heavily targeted within about five hours. Monthly is the minimum. Weekly is the reason Growth exists.
Security monitoring
We monitor your site for malware, unauthorised access attempts, and known vulnerabilities. If a security issue is detected, we deal with it before it affects your customers or your rankings.
Google works to keep hacked content out of its search results, and recovery takes weeks.
Automated daily backups
Daily backups, stored off-site and separate from your hosting server. A backup sitting on the same server as the website is not a backup.
If something goes wrong, whether a failed update, a hack, or an accidental deletion, we restore your site quickly.
Uptime monitoring
We monitor your site 24/7, out of hours included, and get an alert if it goes down. Downtime means lost enquiries, particularly for businesses that live on bookings, quotes and phone calls.
What happens next depends on your plan.
Secure cloud hosting
Managed cloud hosting is part of every plan. Fast, reliable servers with SSL, server-level caching and server maintenance handled by us.
No separate hosting account, and no hosting company's support queue.
Content and technical edits
Need to change your prices, add a service, update your opening hours, or upload photos of recent work? Growth includes up to two hours of edits a month. Premium is unlimited.
What counts as an edit
Changes to page content, uploading new content, blog posting, changing settings, installing plugins, uploading and optimising images, and CSS adjustments. Send us the instructions and any text, images or files, and we do it.
What unlimited means on Premium
Unlimited requests, not unlimited scope. Send as many as you like and we work through them one at a time, in the order they arrive. Each request is a task: change this copy, swap that image, post this blog, adjust that setting. What it is not is a project. Rewriting or restructuring your whole site is a rebuild, and we will quote for it rather than quietly absorb it.
What does not count as an edit
Custom PHP, HTML or JavaScript coding, new plugin development or modification, theme building, updating custom code, graphic design, building new websites, or new page layout templates. Those are real development tasks, and we quote for them separately rather than pretending two hours a month covers them.
Platforms We Maintain
WordPress and WooCommerce
We maintain WordPress websites and WooCommerce shops. These are the two platforms we build on, so we know them inside out.
WordPress
WordPress powers most of the sites we build and maintain. It is flexible, well supported, and used by millions of businesses. That popularity also makes it a target, and as the numbers above show, the risk sits almost entirely in plugins rather than in WordPress itself.
WooCommerce
WooCommerce adds a shop, and it adds complexity. Product pages, payment gateways, shipping calculations, stock management and checkout flows all have to keep working every time WordPress or WooCommerce updates. A broken checkout means lost sales, so we test WooCommerce sites thoroughly after every update.
Taking over from another agency. If your site was built on WordPress or WooCommerce by someone else and you need somebody to take it on, we can. We audit the site first, fix what is already broken, then bring it onto a plan. If the site itself is past saving, that is a redesign rather than a maintenance job, and we will tell you so.
Sites We Look After
Websites we built, and still keep running
Every site below is one we designed, hand-coded and now maintain. Updates applied, backups taken, uptime watched, and somebody who notices when something stops working.
Joinery, automotive, electrical, engineering, pest control, waste clearance, asbestos surveying and ecommerce. Different trades, same maintenance routine behind them.
What We Find
What we find on sites that have not been maintained
We take over neglected websites regularly. The same five things come up.
Outdated plugins with known vulnerabilities
The most common way WordPress sites get hacked. Attackers scan for sites running outdated plugins and exploit the known weaknesses automatically, often within hours of the weakness being published.
Broken contact forms and booking systems
An update applied without testing, or a plugin that has quietly become incompatible. The form looks fine on the page but nothing arrives. The owner does not realise they are losing enquiries until a customer mentions it weeks later. This is the single most expensive fault on the list, and the hardest to spot.
Slow loading speeds
Unoptimised images, databases that have never been cleaned, caching that was never configured. A slow site frustrates visitors and hurts rankings.
SSL certificate expiry
The padlock disappears and visitors get a security warning. Some leave immediately.
Incompatible themes and plugins
A major WordPress update changes something under the hood and the theme has not kept up. The site breaks on certain pages or certain devices, often mobile only, so it looks fine on your desktop.
All of it is preventable. That is what the plans are for.
A Fair Question
Could you do this yourself?
Some people should. If you are confident with updates and you genuinely keep an eye on your site, you do not need us.
But this is the job, every month, without fail.
- Update WordPress core, plugins and themes at least once a month
- Take a full backup before every update
- Store that backup away from the website server
- Know how to restore it, not assume the backup works
- After every update, check forms, menus, mobile layouts, key pages and any checkout
- Monitor uptime and failed form submissions
- Review security alerts, storage limits and expired licences
- Test your backups from time to time
None of it is difficult. The hard part is consistency, in a busy month, when the van needs an MOT and you are three quotes behind.
Some people will do it. Others will look at that list and decide £39 a month is reasonable. Both are fine. What is not fine is assuming it is happening when nobody is doing it.
How We Work
Three steps to getting your site looked after
Free site audit
We start with a full technical audit of your current website: WordPress version, plugin versions, security status, loading speed, backup status, hosting configuration and SSL. You get a written report of what we find, with no obligation.
Fixes and onboarding
If there are existing issues, we fix them before bringing the site onto a plan. That might mean updating plugins, removing malware, optimising images, configuring caching, or migrating to our managed hosting.
Ongoing maintenance
Updates, backups, security monitoring and hosting handled. A direct point of contact for technical queries and content changes.

Site maintenance frequently asked questions
How much does website maintenance cost?
Plans start at £39 a month for Starter, £89 for Growth and £189 for Premium. Hosting and SSL are included in every plan, so there is no separate hosting bill on top.
Do I need a maintenance plan if my site is new?
A new site is not immune. Plugins release updates from the day it launches, and an unpatched plugin is an unpatched plugin whether the site is a week old or five years old. Starter exists for exactly this case.
What happens if an update breaks my site?
On Starter we roll the site back so it works, then wait for the plugin developer to publish a fix. On Growth and Premium we copy the site to staging, roll the live site back so you keep trading, fix it offline and then migrate the fix across.
If the breakage came from code we wrote, we fix it at no charge. If it came from changes you made yourself, that is chargeable.
Is hosting included?
Yes. Managed UK cloud hosting and an SSL certificate are part of every plan, with server-level caching and server maintenance handled by us. You do not need a separate hosting account.
Can you take over a site another agency built?
Yes, and we do it regularly. We audit the site first and fix what is already broken before bringing it onto a plan. If the site is past saving we will tell you that honestly rather than charge you a monthly fee to maintain something that needs replacing.
What counts as a content edit?
Changes to page content, uploading new content, blog posting, changing settings, installing plugins, uploading and optimising images, and CSS adjustments.
Custom PHP, HTML or JavaScript coding, plugin development, theme building, graphic design and new page templates are development work and are quoted separately.
Is there a minimum contract?
No. Plans run month to month.
How To Contact Us
It Starts With a Conversation
Whether your site needs regular updates, a security clean-up, or simply somebody to take over from an agency you have outgrown, the first conversation covers three things.
- What state your site is actually in, from a free technical audit
- Which plan fits, or whether you need one at all
- What any existing fixes would cost, quoted before we start
If your site is in good shape and you do not need a plan, we will say so. You keep the audit findings either way.
